I am firmly opposed to the Heidelberg Materials application for the Scott Pit gravel extraction project in Bearspaw.
The Scott Pit is simply too close to established residential neighbourhoods, where families have rightly raised serious concerns about noise, dust, heavy truck traffic, and the erosion of their Country Residential quality of life. It also appears to contradict Rocky View County’s Agricultural Master Plan, which commits to “radically defend” farmland from incompatible industrial development.
I believe that good land-use applications must respect both residents and the land. Projects of this scale must not undermine agricultural productivity, rural character, or the integrity and enjoyment of community life. The proposed Heidelberg / Scott Pit fails that test.
I am closely monitoring Heidelberg’s pending application to the Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB). While the formal submission is expected in the first half of 2026, I will ensure Rocky View County’s concerns are clearly represented at every stage of the process. Protecting local decision-making is essential. Land-use choices that affect residents so directly must remain in the local Council's hands - not ceded to outside regulators who lack community connection.
Both I and the other candidate in Division 4 oppose the Scott Pit proposal. The key difference lies in leadership and approach. For me, opposition alone is not enough. A strong councillor must also listen to the residents, anticipate challenges, bring forward practical solutions, and ensure the County’s voice is heard and respected throughout the regulatory process. Without thoughtful strategy and active engagement, there is a real risk that provincial bodies like the NRCB could override council decisions, weakening Rocky View County’s future autonomy.
I bring the experience and credibility to protect that autonomy. I understand the risks posed by the NRCB process and am committed to advocating for residents every step of the way. I know how to build consensus with council colleagues, provincial officials, and neighbouring municipalities, ensuring that Rocky View County and the new council speak with strength, authority, and are respected. My leadership and understanding of human nature, business and the political process set me apart from the other candidate in the upcoming Rocky View County election.
While both candidates oppose the Scott Pit, I offer the leadership, strategy, and experience needed to truly defend Rocky View County’s interests, protect its rural character, and keep decision-making power where it belongs - with the people who live here.
