my Position on the issues that matters to you

GRAVEL

I strongly OPPOSE the Scott Pit gravel project and the Heidelberg application. I was against it when it first came forward in 1994,  and again 2010 and the last time in 2021

Residents are concerned about noise, dust, traffic, and the erosion of their quality-of-life.

                                                           SO AM I.

It is a contradiction of the County’s Agricultural Master Plan and the Bearspaw Area Structure Plan.

I am monitoring the application to the NRCB*. As your Councillor, I will ensure your voice and Rocky View County’s concerns are heard at every stage of that process. Protecting our local decision-making authority is essential.

I will stand firmly with residents to safeguard agricultural land, protect rural character, promote smart development with supporting infrastructure, and keep decision-making power in Rocky View County’s hands. We need to ensure we always have a made-in-Rocky View solution that is best for all residents

*The formal application is expected in the first two quarters of 2026. They are now addressing final application requirements from the NRCB. A hearing is expected to take place in late 2026.

ROADS AND INTERCHANGES

Transportation Infrastructure

This is a complex problem that impacts all of Rocky View County and involves all levels of government. We need to establish strong relationships with neighbouring municipalities and cities to address these increasingly pressing issues.

The current situation:

Just in Division 4, we already have significant problems at several intersections. To name just a few that have plagued our residents for far too long are the Crowchild at 12 Mile Coulee, 12 Mile Coulee and Country Hills, Bearspaw/Burma Road, Lockend and Hwy 1A, Lockend and 567, and Highway 22 and 567. While some of these have finally made it to a priority list and some have started, it has taken far too long for these improvements to get started. I will work hard to get things done for the residents!

How many more accidents and deaths must we experience before these issues are addressed? Nothing has happened in the last eight years, and although these won’t be fixed quickly, we have to start now to build the strong cases we need for these necessary improvements.

For example, Crowchild and 12 Mile isn’t just a Bearspaw issue, it also impacts Cochrane residents and the City of Calgary. Highway 1A was twinned starting in 1989 when Cochrane was only 4,337 people. The city and area are approaching 55,000 people now. Plus our County residents living in the expanded Bearspaw and communities to the west and northwest have expanded exponentially. All these people drive on these roadways that pass through our community.

To our rural residents and agricultural users:

Many of your roads in these areas are under County control, so we need to ensure they are wide enough for your modern farming equipment and safe for your cattle and machinery movements. This is within the Rocky View County Council's control to enable now, so let’s get started. We need to examine road bans and their potential impact on your product movements to markets.

Intersections where gravel trucks and other large equipment enter a busy highway.

We need to ensure that merge lanes and turning lanes are significantly longer to allow slower-moving vehicles to merge safely. Mixing high-speed highway traffic with the needs of slow-moving trucks requires different controls and smarter traffic management.

These industrial operations and gravel pits have hundreds of trucks entering highly travelled County roadways. They have all the resources necessary to build better merge lanes at their pit entrances. Lets work together to find workable solutions to these issues.

How I will represent you:

I will push for enforcement to monitor these intersections to ensure the trucks stop and enter safely. Mixing high volumes of commuters, school children in cars and school buses with heavy gravel trucks is an accident waiting to happen. We cannot let that happen to our children.

INFRASTRUCTURE

We need intelligent and responsible development in Rocky View County. This helps to diversify the tax base and allows people to move to our amazing communities to raise their families.

Properly planned communities and commercial developments, along with appropriate infrastructure, are necessary. Roads, intersections, water/wastewater systems, telecommunication connectivity , recreational opportunities/facilities, fire coverage and schools are ALL very important factors in how we plan growth and new developments.

The Rocky View County Council has long ignored the infrastructure needed to support these developments. While serving on the Subdivision Development Approval Board (SDAB), I have witnessed the shortcomings and problems that result from poor planning and short-sighted decisions.

How I will represent you:

We have had a “stagnation agenda” for much too long.

However, unbridled development is NOT what I am talking about nor what I support.

I will ensure that all aspects of development are properly considered.

SCHOOLS, FIREHALLS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

The growth rate in certain areas far exceeds the available space in the existing schools. It seems irresponsible for the County and Council to keep approving residential developments without the necessary support for the residents.

These new schools take years to complete, so we need to start lobbying the Provincial Government to get our children the services they require.

How I will represent you:

I will advocate for the need to work cooperatively with the Provincial Education Minister and the Rocky View School Board to get more classrooms and teachers for our children in our communities.
